Our priority—each day
on every job

Engaging and empowering employees to do the right thing.

CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

As an active oil and gas industry service provider, we are committed to the protection of life and property in all that it seeks to achieve. Accordingly, our goal is to ensure the health and safety of our employees and all others involved in or affected by our operations, and at the same time, we protect the environment in which we work and conduct our activities.

WORKFORCE ENGAGEMENT

Our workforce engagement strategy focuses on our safety culture, employee empowerment and accountability.

The leadership team defines and role models that safety is our overriding value and priority and remains vigilant to new threats, acting quickly to mitigate risk. All employees are empowered directly by the president to stop the job and exercise their right and their responsibility to prevent incidents. Employees are encouraged to bring forward safety concerns through our internal reporting system, to be a part of the solution and be recognized for making safe decisions.

  • Hazard identification and assessment

  • Hazard control

  • Training

TRANSPORTATION

SUPERIOR SAFETY AND ROADWAY PERFORMANCE

The Partners in Compliance Program (PIC) represent a group of transport providers that have superior safety performance. It is a program of excellence in the transportation industry that identifies the top five percentile of companies that demonstrate roadway and workplace safety performance in Alberta.

PIC members must be COR certified and have outstanding compliance on National Safety Code hours-of-service audits. Tier 1 has been a proud member of PIC since June 15, 2015— the youngest company ever to have achieved the standard. We operate under a Federal Carrier Profile and are rated Excellent, which is the highest level of compliance awarded.

Our impressive safety record:

  • In 2016, Tier 1 achieved zero Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) while working more hours than in the previous three years combined

  • Since 2013 when the company was founded, we’ve recorded zero lost time injuries (LTI)

  • We’ve achieved an industry milestone by exceeding 5 million kilometers travelled with zero motor vehicle accidents (MVA)

  • We have a British Columbia OH&S Variance on Part 21-Blasting Operations of the Regulations, allowing us to maintain two-way radio communications throughout the fracking and pumping operation. This variance is permitted for only secure detonator systems that we use in our operations.

PETROLEUM SERVICES
ASSOCIATION OF CANADA

Tier 1 is a full member of the Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) and regularly attends and contributes to industry meetings, keeping up to date with regulatory compliance. We sit on PSAC’s Oilwell Perforating Committee, Transportation Issues Committee, Health and Safety Committee and Safety Culture Committee.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS

We are proud to be a participating company in PSAC’s Community Partners program, an industry wide, in-the-field program that fosters courteous behavior while conducting oil and gas activity. Community Partners provides simple behaviour guidelines that make it easy for all employees and contractors to participate.

Committed to prevention and high-quality service.

SERVICE QUALITY

SERVICE QUALITY CULTURE

We are committed to safely delivering products and services that comply with industry standards and exceed our customers’ business needs and quality specifications. Our goal is to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction and to conform to all legal and mutually agreed requirements.

All levels of management within Tier 1 are responsible for promoting an environment of leadership, commitment and accountability for developing and implementing our quality processes. We encourage employees to take personal responsibility for Quality, to report any issue or concern, and to stop any activity that does not comply with the QMS.
